Cost Compass Visual Redesign

Redesigning a dense agency-led analytics concept into a cleaner CTX product experience aligned to Scoping Pro.

Role

Redesign lead and consulting-group design partner

Timeline

2 weeks

Product

Cost Compass, CTX suite

Reference system

Scoping Pro scenario modeling

Outcome Snapshot

The story, compressed.

Problem

The agency direction was not landing with users or stakeholders.

The screen felt dense, heavily branded, and disconnected from the cleaner CTX suite direction.

My move

I redesigned the page around Scoping Pro's cleaner CTX language.

I partnered with the consulting designer while using the existing Scenario Modeling product as the visual reference point.

Tradeoff

Improved hierarchy and suite alignment without reopening the full product model.

The work focused on visual direction, navigation clarity, and density reduction inside a two-week window.

Outcome

Improved visual direction and a stronger pattern for future pages.

Cost Compass moved closer to a product-led CTX experience instead of feeling like a separate agency concept.

Before And After

From a dense agency concept to a cleaner CTX-aligned analytics workspace.

Original agency direction

Dense hierarchy

Original Cost Compass Move Transport screen with dark header, large blue PepsiCo banner, dense controls, matrix, and prioritization chart
Redesigned CTX direction

Cleaner workspace

Redesigned Cost Compass Move Transport screen with white header, clearer module navigation, cohort controls, opportunity summary, matrix, and prioritization chart

What Was Not Working

Strong functional coverage, but too much friction in the visual system.

  1. Tabs felt local, not page-level.

Why it mattered: users could not easily tell which navigation controlled the full page versus one section.

  2. Everything competed for attention.

Why it mattered: the page needed to guide users toward the benchmarking insight, not ask them to prioritize the interface themselves.

  3. Controls and data arrived too quickly.

Why it mattered: a dense analytics tool needs deliberate spacing so users can scan, compare, and act with confidence.

  4. It felt separate from the CTX suite.

Why it mattered: stakeholders wanted Cost Compass to align to Scoping Pro and the cleaner UI direction emerging across CTX.

Design Direction

I used Scoping Pro as the north star for a quieter, more product-led CTX interface.

Principle 01

Make the active module and page state obvious.

Principle 02

Reduce visual noise so users can focus on benchmarking data.

Principle 03

Align Cost Compass to the cleaner UI language emerging across CTX.

Visual Craft Moves

The redesign focused on hierarchy, restraint, and suite consistency.

  • Header and navigation

Removed the heavy branded frame and made Move - Transport feel like a true product module.

  • Page flow

Reordered the screen from module context to setup to insight, creating a calmer reading path.

  • Controls

Reduced competing button and tab styles so filters felt like one connected system.

  • Data surfaces

Used lighter borders, spacing, and restrained color so the matrix and map could carry the page.

Tradeoffs

The redesign had to improve trust without reopening the product model.

  • Preserve the workflow.

I kept the benchmarking flow intact so the team could improve visual direction within the two-week window.

  • Prioritize suite alignment.

Scoping Pro became the reference point, which helped Cost Compass feel like part of CTX instead of a one-off tool.

  • Reduce noise, not data.

The page stayed analytically dense, but the visual system made scanning and comparison easier.

Impact And Reflection

Impact

The redesign improved the visual direction of Cost Compass and aligned it to the cleaner, newer UI look within the CTX suite.

It gave stakeholders a clearer path forward for the product experience and created a stronger foundation for future Cost Compass pages to follow.

Reflection

Visual design was not just polish here. It changed how understandable and credible the product felt.

The biggest lesson was that navigation and page structure have to reinforce each other. If tabs look attached to one section, users will not trust that they control the whole page. By simplifying the structure and aligning the design to Scoping Pro, Cost Compass became easier to read as one connected CTX workflow.
